Have a fantastic weekend! Once again, we’ve compiled a list of awesome events going on in the Twin Cities this weekend. Not that you’ll need it – thanks to El Niño, the weather is going to be ridiculously nice tomorrow. Hopefully this doesn’t put the brakes on your wintry plans! We suggest planning some walks along the river and the stone arch bridge, walking about Minnehaha Falls or exploring Theodore Wirth Park. Then make your way to St. Paul for Crashed Ice. Whatever you end up doing this weekend, we hope you have a good one!
The biggest event this weekend is Red Bull Crashed Ice Finals in St. Paul. Skaters compete in the Ice Cross Downhill World Championship, which is a obstacle course race on a large track which starts at the Cathedral of Saint Paul. There is expected to be 100,000 spectators, so get there early for a good view! Plus, this event is completely free. February 26-27.
After you’ve had your fun at Crashed Ice, get over to the Crashed Ice Village on West 7th for the street parties! February 27th, 2-10:30pm. West 7th Street between Walnut Street and Kellogg Blvd. Live music, swag, food for purchase.
With the weather warming up, we are itching to get started on house and lawn projects. For some serious inspiration, check out the Minneapolis Home and Garden Show! Feb 26-28 and March 4-6, Minneapolis Convention Center. Tickets are $14, $12 in advance. $4 for children 6-12.
It’s not easy to golf in the winter in Minnesota, but that won’t stop us. This weekend, play in the Skyway Open Golf Tournament! That’s right. This weekend you can play miniature golf in the Skyway on artist-designed holes. There are a variety of events for all ages, so it should be a blast. Plus, proceeds support the Committee to End Street Homelessness. Feb 26-28. Click here to purchase a golf package and select a tee time.
Throughout the year, there are various fun and charity run/walks, 5Ks, marathons. The American Lung association does their race a little differently. Participate in the Fight for Air Climb, by pledging to fundraise at least $100. On race day, climb all 31 stories of the U.S. Bank building. Or climb all 31 stories as many times as you can in one hour, if you are an Ultimate Climber! Feb 27, U.S. Bank Plaza, race starts at 7am. See fees and details here.
This weekend is the East Lake Taco Throwdown! For $25 dollars ($20 for just food) you get two beers, a commemorative pint glass, and a taco from Hot Indian, Taco Cat and Manny’s Tortas. Choose your favorite! Feb 28, noon, Midtown Global Market.
Love the Oscars? Do you always make sure to watch all of the nominated films before the awards? The 23rd Annual Oscar Experience is the event for you! Proceeds benefit the Aegis Foundation and the Twin Cities Film Fest. $30 for General Admission, $120 for VIP tickets, including dinner and a swag bag. Feb 28th, Showplace Icon in St. Louis Park.
If you feel like a little road trip, check out the Grumpy Old Men Festival in Wabasha! With events like an ice fishing contest and cribbage tournaments, and of course, a hot dish luncheon, what could be more Minnesotan?! Feb 27th.
Another Ice Shanty Update: for the last weekend, the Ice Shanty Projects are open, despite the warm weather! Visit the Shore Shanty Village on the beach of White Bear Lake this weekend, Feb 27-28.
Plus, it’s Leap Day on Monday. Be sure to dress in your finest blue and yellow! (30 Rock anyone?) “Real life is for March!”
