Have a great Labor Day Weekend! Even though most schools are already back in session, it seems like Labor Day truly marks the end of summer. It won’t be long before fall colors set in, not to mention pumpkin-flavored everything. Hope you are able to soak up the sun, have a chance to visit the State Fair, or maybe take in a lake trip this weekend! Here are some fun links and ideas for galavanting about town:
Party at Prince’s House! It’s no joke: the next three nights, Prince is throwing a party at his Paisley Park studios in honor of his new album, “HITNRUN”. With the promise of live music (not necessarily by Prince, but you might get lucky?) this should be an event to remember! Sept 4-6 at Paisley Park: 7801 Audubon Rd in Chanhassen. Doors open 9:30pm, $40 cover – first come first serve. No alcohol or cell-phones.
Block party season is still going strong, and this weekend Day Block Brewing Company is presenting Porktoberfest! Featuring a variety of live music, beer, pork-centric foods, as well as treats for non-meat eaters, this should be a fun time. Sept 6, 2-10pm. Day Block/Grumpy’s lot. $10 Tickets include $5 food and beer voucher.
Not your average amusement park: every year Valley Fair throws a Green Giant Corn Feast! That’s right: not only will you get to ride all the rides, your park admission gets you free corn-on-the-cob to boot! Sept 5-7, 11am-7pm. All you can eat while the 30,000 pounds of corn lasts. Other BBQ food items for purchase.
You think you’re funny? Acme will be the judge of that! This summer, Acme has been hosting an amateur contest to determine the Funniest Person in the Twin Cities! Tuesday, five finalists will compete for the top honor, with a set from Henry Philips rounding out the night. 8pm, Acme Comedy Club, $15. Ages 18+
Speaking of funny people, have you heard? Netflix has ordered a new comedy series to be filmed right here in Minnesota! “Lady Dynamite” is starring Duluth’s own Maria Bamford with a great lineup of comedy guest stars. Filming starts in October!
If you plan on taking a road trip, it’s a good time to do it: gas prices are the lowest they’ve been for Labor Day weekend in a decade.
What an awesome new app to help feel safer walking home! Perfect for those late nights–especially for all of the college kids heading back to class this month.
Last but not least, it’s your final chance to visit the Minnesota State Fair! Well, that is until next year…
