I may mention the weather just about every other week, but hasn’t it been amazing? I’m not quite ready for summer to be over, but it has been beautiful out. Hopefully it will hold for the weekend, because there are a lot of fun things to do around the metro before school starts!

Huzzah! Earlier this week, we highlighted Shakopee, home to the 45th annual Minnesota Renaissance Festival! It’s opening tomorrow, so let the jousting begin! Sunday, experience a piece of Japanese culture at the Japanese Lantern Lighting Festival! This event takes place at Como Park to celebrate the annual Japanese holiday, Obon. Grounds open at 3pm for live entertainment and festivities, and then the lantern lighting is at dusk. Sunday August 23rd, 3-9pm at the Majorie McNeely Conservatory at Como Park. $5/adults, $3/children ages 3-12, Seniors and children under 3 are free!
I’d love a vacation to Greece, but a close second could be Saint George’s Greek Summer Festival! Featuring delicious Mediterranean food, music, dancing, and games, this event sounds delightful! August 22-23rd, Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in St. Paul. Tickets here!
Cultivate Food, Ideas & Music Festival is a free event produced by Chipotle with a mission to promote ideas of sustainability and responsibility concerning food choices. With great bands and cooking demos with top chefs, scattered with interactive food experiences and a kids zone, this will be an exciting event. Not to mention, free Chipotle! August 22nd, 11am-7pm at Loring Park. Free!
It will be very sad to see Nye’s Polonaise Room close it’s doors at the end of the year. It’s a Nordeast institution after all! If you want to wish Nye’s your fondest farewell, be sure to attend the two-day outdoor Tent Party this weekend! August 22nd at 3pm, August 23rd at 2pm.
Open Streets Downtown is this Sunday. Walk, bike, or skate the streets and support the community and local businesses! Also, be sure to check out First Ave’s Annual Garage Sale! Downtown Minneapolis on Washington and First Avenues. 11am-5pm. Free!
