Cheers to the weekend! I took a trip up north this week to relax at the lake with my family. It will not be easy to come back to reality! How are your summers coming along? Any vacation plans? If you are sticking around this week, there are some pretty exciting events happening in Minneapolis. Check it out!
The Anoka Riverfest is on Saturday. This event is a huge craft fair, not only that, but there are two stages of live music, family activities, and food for sale. Free admission and parking! If you love artisan crafts, this is not to be missed. Saturday July 11th, Historic Downtown Anoka.
The Basilica Block party is not your average block party. Despite it’s name, this annual event is kind of epic! It started as a fundraiser to help pay for structural restoration of The Basilica of St. Mary, and continues to raise funds toward that special downtown Minneapolis building. This weekend, the headliners include Weezer and Wilco, as well as Fitz and the Tantrums, O.A.R., Zoo Animal, and more. 2 nights, 3 stages, should be a blast. July 10th-11th, gates open at 5pm. Tickets are $60 a night ($100 for both), $20/night for kids.
This Sunday Open Streets Minneapolis is coming to Northeast! This year the route is in a circle, so you and your family can visit a number of local shops and eateries. You can explore the neighborhood by bike or walking, or however you want (except car)! Many local businesses are open with various activities on the streets, such as a bouncy castle, yoga and pint pong on 13th Avenue, live music at Eastside Food Co-op, puppets, puppy zones, kid zones, and more! Free, July 12th, 12-6pm.
Have you seen the new 5K trends? No matter what shape you are in, a fun run is for everyone! This weekend, check out The Color Run. This run is unique in that you wear a white t-shirt and spectators throw a different color at you at each kilometer of the race. Fitting, this is known as the “Happiest 5K on the Planet!” What a fun way to get exercise in! July 12, 8:30am. Tickets start at $55 for individuals or $50 for teams of 4.
Or if colors aren’t your thing, you can do The Chanhassen Tonka Mud Run OR The Minnesota Warrior Dash! These are Mud Runs, where you run through various obstacles, and get, well, muddy. Grab a beer at the end! The Tonka Mud Run is $45 on race day, registration at 8am in Minnewashta Regional Park. The Warrior Dash is $80 to register online, and starts at 8:30am at Afton Alps.
Francophile? Or just like parties? Be sure to come to the Bastille Day Block Party presented by Barbette! Live music, dancing, food, and cake? What more could you want! July 12th, Irving and Lagoon, 3-10pm. Free!
Hope you have a great weekend!
