Happy Father’s Day! The weather is nice and we hope it stays that way, especially with all of the amazing outdoor events happening! What are you doing to treat dad? Heading up north for a weekend getaway? Taking him fishing and boating on the lake? I’m looking forward to trying the fried chicken at Revival tomorrow (I’ve heard it’s amazing!) and maybe smoking some ribs on Sunday. If you are sticking around the Twin Cities, here is a Father-friendly list of events…
Rock the Garden is here! This outdoor music festival presented by The Current and the Walker Art Center is one of the best summer events. This year’s headlines are Belle and Sebastian on Saturday, and Modest Mouse on Sunday. It’s truly not to be missed! Saturday and Sunday 2pm-10pm at the Walker Art Center. Bring your empty water bottle-free refills! Also, catch a free ride from Metro Transit to and from the event.
If you didn’t get your night art fix last weekend, the Greenway Glow Arts Festival and Night Bike Ride is ON! Check it out Saturday night. The arts festival features various art installations scattered along the Midtown Greenway from Girard to 28th Avenues, while the Night Bike Ride is a fundraiser and starts at 8pm. Should be spectacular! Saturday, June 20th, 6pm-Midnight. The art is free to all, while the bike ride has a registration fee. Register for the Night Ride here!
We Minneapolites love the Stone Arch Bridge for good reason! It’s beautiful! This weekend it’s the site of the Stone Arch Bridge Art & Music Festival! Peruse over 250 artists booths, participate in art activities, see the Pop Art! Car Display, and enjoy outdoor concerts with the beautiful skyline in the background. Free! Friday 5-10pm, Saturday 10am-10pm, and Sunday 10am-5pm.
If that isn’t enough, did you know there is literally an outdoor concert every day in the summer in the Twin Cities?!
Do you live south of the cities? Be sure to check out the Farmington Dew Days! This week-long event will be going on all throughout Saturday, from 8-midnight. There are various activities for all ages, including ball tournaments, cook-offs, eating contests, a parade, live music and more!
It’s the time of year for triple-play movies at the Vali Hi drive in! What a perfect summer night outing. Nightly! First movie starts at dusk. $8.50/person, kids 6-12 are $1, kids 5 and under free!
This weekend is the annual MSRA “Back to the 50’s” car show! What a classic! Seriously, no cars in the show are younger than 1964–think American Graffiti. If you and your dad are into cars, this is the event for you! June 19th-21st at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Admission is $10, and it’s free to watch the cars cruise on Snelling Avenue. Seek out a good spot near Har Mar Mall!
Can’t get enough of the NE breweries? Check out the NE Food & Brew Jam! Featuring all NE Breweries, NE Food trucks and local bands. YUM. Sunday, 12-5pm at The Broadway Building. $10 ticket proceeds go towards NE Youth organizations. Bring a non-perishable item for the Little Kitchen Food Shelf!
Or for another brewery adventure while celebrating German culture, check out the German Fest at Schmidt Brewery! Food, brews, live music, traditional dancing and entertainment. June 19-21, Free!
