This weekend is the annual Art-A-Whirl in Northeast Minneapolis, one of the largest art crawls and the biggest open studio event in the country! Presented by the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA), over 600 artists will be featuring their work around Northeast. Galleries and studios around the neighborhood will all be open to the public. After you are done perusing and perhaps purchasing some amazing local art, be sure to make your way around the local establishments and breweries to hear some local musicians! Listen, I’m not sure where your priorities lie if you are in town this weekend and somehow are not attending Art-A-Whirl (what?!) however…in the event that you need a break, here are some other exciting things that are going on around the cities:
Minneapolis Bike Week is culminating with “Bike to Small Business Day” on Saturday, and “Family Parks Day” on Sunday. Bike to the Twins Game! Bike to the store! Bike around your neighborhood for fun!
Stanley’s Northeast Bar Room is having their annual Craft Beer and Bacon Fest on Saturday. What’s not to love?
This weekend is the MSP Comic Con, featuring over 250 Comic Book Creators from around the country. Should be a great time! May 16-17. Be sure to bring a canned good for $1 off of your ticket!

This weekend is Grill Fest at CHS Field, brand new home of the St. Paul Saints. For $40, get a variety of grilled food, wine, and beer samples, along with some hot tips on grilling like a pro. I can’t think of anything more delicious and summery right now! May 16th-17th
Can’t get enough spring celebrations? Head to the Linden Hills neighborhood! Saturday is their neighborhood-wide garage sale, and Sunday is the annual Linden Hills Festival.
A few fundraising events I want to point out:
-7.8 Rubbles: Nepal Earthquake 2015 Relief. Come to The Loch @ Macalester to join in this event, which will feature live music, food, a silent auction and art sale. $25, Sunday, May 17th, 12pm
Azul-Wild Night. This event is raise money for wildlife. The Minnesota Zoo experts are bringing Zoomobile animals, and there will be liive music, a silent acution, and more. $65, Saturday, May 16th, 7pm
This week, The Film Society of Minneapolis/St. Paul is presenting I Am Big Bird: The Carrol Spinney Story. If you have fond memories of watching Sesame Street or love The Muppets, this is not to be missed.* May 15-May 21st, St. Anthony Main. *Note: according to Spinney’s recent Reddit AMA, there is a bit of strong language. This film is recommended for adults and older children who are old enough to know that Big Bird is played by a person.
