Happy May Day! Minnesota is starting to bloom, and we are loving the sun. Hopefully the weather will stay beautiful for this weekend’s celebrations; the Cinco de Mayo festival in St. Paul, various Kentucky Derby parties, and the May Day celebration in Minneapolis. Many of the farmer’s markets are starting to open on Saturday; might I suggest an early visit for produce and flowers, followed by a patio brunch before hitting up garage sales? No matter what you find to do this weekend, fun should be had by all! Here are some events that caught our eye:
The Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater’s 41st annual MayDay Parade and Festival is on Sunday, with the parade going down Bloomington Avenue and leading to celebrations and entertainment at Powderhorn Park. This community event is truly one-of-a-kind, and I can guarantee you won’t see anything else like it! Sunday, 12pm. Arrive early to get a good view!
On Saturday, enjoy the Cinco de Mayo festival in St. Paul! This is another all-day event, with a family 5K run in the morning, parade along Cesar Chavez, and entertainment all afternoon. Saturday, Festival grounds open at 9am. Run starts at 8:15am.
While many will argue that you can only experience the Kentucky Derby at Cathedral Hill, those of us that can’t make it down might enjoy viewing it around town! There will be plenty of mint juleps going around, I am sure! Saturday, various venues. Derby airs at 5:24pm.
If you need some springtime inspiration, check out the MIA’s 32nd annual event, “Art In Bloom”. This free exhibit includes 150 floral arrangements of various pieces of art. Sounds lovely! April 30-May 3.
This weekend the Wizard World Comic Con is coming to Minneapolis! This event should be pretty exciting, with special guests like Gillian Anderson from the X-Files among others attending. May 1-3, Minneapolis Convention Center
It’s the time of year for farmer’s markets! The Midtown Farmer’s Market opens for the season on Saturday, complete with a food truck festival. Delicious! Various farmer’s markets are starting to open in the metro. See this handy guide for one near you!
It’s garage sale season! Here is a guide for some of the state-wide garage sales, such as the 100-mile sale this weekend. Other neighborhood sales are popping up around the Twin Cities this weekend, including the Tangletown, Bryn Mayr, and Summit Hill Garage Sales! Hope you can find (or sell) some good finds!
