Wow, I can’t believe it’s already August! This summer has been mild and rainy, but hopefully we will be able to have a few more nice days for day trips to the beach or up north. What are you up to this weekend? If you are sticking around the Twin Cities, it’s a true festival weekend! From the trifecta of art fairs to theater festivals to Polish and Irish festivals, there is surely something for everyone!
Various theater groups all over town are participating in the annual Minnesota Fringe Festival! This festival is aimed at advancing the arts by making it easy for artists to produce their original works at affordable costs while keeping ticket prices low. Performances were chosen by a lottery, with all shows running 60 minutes or less. Through August 8 at various stages in Minneapolis.
The Uptown Art Fair is the second largest event in Minnesota, second only to the state fair. If you are interested in art and live music, this is the summer event for you! Not only that, but the Loring Park Art Festival, and the Powderhorn Art Fair are also happening this weekend. You cannot get out of Minneapolis without some serious inspiration! FREE! The Uptown Art Fair is August 7-9, the Loring and Powderhorn fairs are August 8-9. Download your free metro transit pass here!
How many pierogi can you eat in one sitting? If you care to find out, sign up for the pierogi eating contest at the Twin Cities Polish Festival! Also check out the other fun cultural events, such as Polka dancing, Chopin concerts, Polish vodka tasting, and more. Aug 7-9, St. Anthony Main. Free!
After you have had your fill of pierogi, be sure to hop on over to St. Paul for the Irish Fair of Minnesota! This event is sure to be a great time, with step dancing performances, gaelic sports, a Celtic marketplace, tea and traditional Irish food. Should be a blast! Aug 7-9, Harriet Island, St. Paul. Free admission! Also, get your free metropass here.
This weekend is the 12th annual Pizza Lucé Block Party! This event features several great local bands, including headliner Har Mar Superstar. Good pizza, good music, and a great way to spend a Saturday. Free admission. Downtown Minneapolis, August 8th, 12-10pm.
While you’re at it, be sure to check out the other hot spots nearby at the North Loop Fest! Featuring even more live music, Fulton beer gardens, and food from Cuzzy’s, Freehouse and The Loop. $15, August 8th 6-10pm in the North Loop of Minneapolis.
And speaking of beer gardens, here’s a Fair State Brewing update!
So the Minneapolis Institute of Art is rebranding. It’s no longer called “M-I-A”, but rather “Mia”, as in “Mee-uh”. What do you think? Weird or no?
