The Marcy-Holmes neighborhood is located in the University community of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is located north of downtown Minneapolis, just across the Mississippi River. The neighborhood is bordered by Central Avenue to the west; Harrison Street, Hennepin Avenue and the 9th Street railroad tracks to the north, the University of Minnesota to the east, and the Mississippi River to the south. Biking and walking paths are located along Main Street and the Mississippi River, connecting to the Stone Arch Bridge which is a pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Mississippi River. Visitors can walk on this trail, also called the “Heritage Trail” which travels in a circle and has several plaques and signs describing the history of St. Anthony Main and Minneapolis. On the south side of the trail, you can visit the Mill Ruins Park, next to the Mill City Museum, site of the old Gold Medal Flour mill. Many shops and restaurants line Central Avenue to the west of the neighborhood, and University Avenue which runs through the neighborhood. On the east side of the neighborhood is the “Dinkytown” district, which is made up of several restaurants, bars, shops, music venues, making it popular for residents and University of Minnesota students alike. Green spaces in Marcy-Holmes include Marcy Park, Holmes Park, and a small Tot Lot on 6th Street between 7th and 8th avenues. Marcy Park is a larger green space offering a respite from Dinkytown, with picnicking areas, a playground, and walking paths. Van Cleve Park is just a few blocks away in the Como neighborhood, providing more sports and recreation activities. Holmes Park is near Central Avenue just a few blocks north of the Mississippi River, and provides basketball half-courts, tennis and volleyball courts, a playground and wading pool, and picnicking areas.
