Powderhorn Park also offers a variety of outdoor recreation, including baseball, soccer, softball and football fields, basketball, tennis and sand volleyball courts, an ice rink, playgrounds and a wading pool, walking and cycling paths, gardens, a fishing dock off of Powderhorn Lake, and a recreation center. The recreation center offers a variety of programming for all ages, and has amenities such as an indoor gym with a basketball and volleyball court, rentable meeting rooms, a craft room, kitchen, and computer lab. Other nearby attractions include Lake Hiawatha Park, the Hiawatha Golf Course, and Lake Nokomis all to the south.

There are two schools with the Bancroft neighborhood: Bancroft Elementary (Pre-K-5), a public International Baccalaureate World School; and El Colegio (9-12) which is a public bilingual high school. The main public schools serving Bancroft neighborhood include Northrop Community School (K-5), Sanford Middle School (6-8), and Roosevelt High School (9-12). I-35W and Hiawatha Avenue provide access to the neighborhood. Residents travel to and from the community by car, bicycle or public transportation. The light rail runs next to Hiawatha Avenue, providing another option for commuters.
