The Northrop neighborhood is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, about 4 miles south of downtown. The neighborhood is bordered by 42nd Street E on the north, Cedar Avenue on the east, Minnehaha Creek on the south, and Chicago Avenue on the west.

Lake Hiawatha Park is just to the east of Northrop and has an 18-hole public golf course which is groomed for cross country skiing in the winter, along with Lake Hiawatha which has swimming beaches. Other amenities include playing fields, a playground, sport courts, an ice hockey rink, wading pool and a recreation center overlooking the lake. Chicago Avenue is a popular destination with restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and a brew pub.
