Minnehaha is located in the Nokomis district of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The neighborhood is bounded by Minnehaha Parkway on the north, Hiawatha Avenue on the east, 54th Street E on the south, and 34th Avenue on the west. The Minnehaha neighborhood is close to a variety of parks, lakes, walking and cycling paths, and other nature attractions, and is a quick commute to Downtown Minneapolis as well as the Minneapolis-St. Paul International airport and the Mall of America.

The paths are part of the Ground Rounds, which is a series of connected byways throughout Minneapolis. Many residents enjoy the close proximity of Lake Nokomis, which provides for a variety of year-round activities including swimming beaches, boating, fishing, ice fishing, outdoor sports and playing fields, playgrounds, ice rinks in the winter, an eatery, gardens, community center, and walking and biking trails. Lake Hiawatha Park is just to the north of Lake Nokomis, and offers a 18-hole public golf course also offering FootGolf and snow skiing trails in the winter, swimming beaches, playgrounds, sports fields, and a recreation center. Minnehaha neighborhood is also within walking distance to local shops and restaurants, as well as the Nokomis Library which has computers for public use, a meeting room, a Spanish language collection and homework help for students.

While there are no schools within Minnehaha, there are several nearby educational options for Minnehaha families including public schools, public charter and magnet schools, and private schools. The main public schools in the area are Lake Nokomis Community Schools – the Wenonah Campus (K-2) and Keewaydin Campus (3-8), as well as Roosevelt High School.
Minnehaha is located adjacent to Hiawatha Avenue and near Highway 62, making it easy for residents to commute to downtown Minneapolis and other parts of the larger Minneapolis metropolitan area. Commuting residents have the option to use the light rail, bus, or bike routes on Hiawatha Avenue, or drive.
