Downtown West is part of the Central area of Minneapolis, Minnesota. In the summer, a weekly farmer’s market is set up along Nicollet Mall, and the Holidazzle Village draws holiday crowds for activities, festivities and shopping in December. Peavey Plaza, next to Orchestra Hall is a site used for a variety of outdoor events, music, and festivities, including the Holidazzle Market in December. The Orchestra Hall is home to the world-renowned Minnesota Orchestra, which plays several Classical and Pops concerts through the years. The Orchestra hall also has spaces that can be rented out for private events. Other venues and bars are nearby off of Hennepin Avenue, which is also the site of the theater district with popular venues including the Orpheum, State and Pantages Theater.
One block over on 1st Avenue is First Avenue and 7th Street Entry, two popular music venues, with First Ave being famous for Prince appearances and is used as a set in his movie “Purple Rain”. This club draws in many popular acts, with the 7th Street Entry a smaller location for lesser known bands lending a more intimate setting. Target Center is another large multipurpose venue, home to the Minnesota Timberwolves NBA team, the Minnesota Lynx WNBA team, and the LFL Minnesota Valkrie team. It is also a popular site for big-name concerts and other various productions. Another fun attraction of Downtown West is the historic Depot Hotel and and the Depot Ice Rink, which is an indoor skating rink open in the winter to the public, and available to rent for private parties. Near the Depot Hotel is the MacPhail Center for Music, which is a facility that provides various lessons and classes for student musicians, practice rooms, and excellent spaces for performances and recitals. Many of the green spaces in Central Minneapolis are adjacent to or outside of Downtown West, but there are a few small parks in the area, including Gateway Park where you might find people eating lunch or doing outdoor yoga, Minneapolis Triangle Park which is a small green space, and Gateway Dog Park, an off-leash area. Loring Park is also within walking distance of Downtown West, providing outdoor sports activities, gardens, a pond for boating, a bandstand for summer concerts, walking and cycling paths, a playground, wading pool and arts center with rentable meeting rooms. To the north of Downtown West is the Mississippi River, with walking and biking paths along the river, with Boom Island and Nicollet Island on the other side. To the east of Downtown West is the Mill City district with parks, museums, the popular Mill City Farmer’s market, and the stone arch bridge which is a pedestrian and biking bridge over the Mississippi River, lending great views of the Minneapolis skyline.

Downtown West Neighborhood is within the Minneapolis Public School District. There is one school located in Downtown West, FAIR School Downtown, which is a K-3 and 9-12 public school. (The other FAIR School campus is in Crystal, serving the grades 4-8). FAIR is an acronym for Fine Arts Interdisciplinary Resource, and it is a public community school serving not only Minneapolis residents but also 10 suburban public school districts as part of the West Metro Education Program (WMEP). The main public schools serving Downtown West include Kenwood Elementary, Anthony Middle School, and Southwest Senior High School. Other public, public charter, magnet and community schools, as well as private schools near Downtown West real estate provide a variety of additional educational options for residents. For post-secondary education, the University of St. Thomas-Minneapolis Campus and the Institute of Production and Recording are both located in Downtown West, with Minneapolis Community and Technical College, the Metropolitan State University-Minneapolis Campus and Dunwoody College of Technology nearby.
Downtown West can be easily accessed by I-394, I-94, and I-35.
