This week we are highlighting the city of Woodbury! Located East of St. Paul, Woodbury is the 9th largest city in Minnesota, and just a short drive on I-94 to the downtown areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul. If you have lived around the Twin Cities for awhile, it is likely that at some point you have ventured to Woodbury, perhaps for shopping at Tamarack Village, Woodbury Village, or Woodbury Lakes, an open-air mall. Residents also enjoy the 3,000 acres of park land which includes public beaches on Carver Lake; the Tamarack Nature Preserve which is groomed for skiing in the winter; a variety of year-round sports and recreational opportunities; as well as playgrounds, dog parks, skate parks, trails, and green spaces.
Popular recreational facilities in Woodbury include the Eagle Valley Golf Course and the Bielenberg Sports Center. The Eagle Valley Golf Course is a public 18-hole course, that offers men and junior leagues, couples golf, as well as lessons for all ages. One of the biggest sports centers in Minnesota, the Bielenberg Sports Center (BSC) offers a 90,000 indoor field house, two indoor ice arenas, an outdoor ice skating rink, 36 outdoor athletic fields and a splash pad. Residents of all ages can take advantage of recreational programs or open field times. Additionally, the BSC is the home of the three area high school hockey teams and a completely handicapped accessible inclusive playground.
While various organizations in Woodbury host events throughout the year, the biggest annual community event is Woodbury Days! This year, Woodbury Days will be taking place this coming weekend, Friday August 28th through Sunday, August 30th at Ojibway Park. This festival is truly the highlight of the year, bringing the whole community together with live bands, a grande parade, demonstrations, carnival rides, kid’s activities, a community bike ride, a business fair, car show, fireworks and more.
With it’s community facilities, an extensive park system, convenient retail locations, and schools located within neighborhoods and proximity to Minneapolis and St. Paul, Woodbury is truly an attractive city.
