This week we are featuring the Northern suburb, Fridley! This city is located just 10 miles north of Downtown Minneapolis, and 15 miles northwest of Downtown St. Paul. Conveniently located on the metro transit line, residents are able to use the light rail to commute easily to downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul workplaces. Also known as “Friendly Fridley”, this suburb has a lot to offer. A variety of parks, trails, and sporting facilities are located in and around Fridley for playing and year-round recreation. A new facility, Springbrook Nature Center, is currently underway and should be completed in the next year, for residents to enjoy wildlife, birding, environmental education, as well as used as a gathering space for a host of activities.
The community life in Fridley is thriving, with a variety of activities available for all ages. Fridley has two major annual events each year, the Fridley ’49er Days and Winterfest. Fridley citizens will celebrate Winterfest this Saturday, January 23rd, with a variety of fun winter themed activities. Events include dog sled rides, horse-drawn hayrides, winter sports, snowballs, s’mores, crafts, and the annual medallion hunt! In the summer, Fridley ’49er Days is the annual celebration of the founding of the city, occurring at the end of June. A variety of activities are held for the occasion, including fun runs, live music, carnival games, inflatables, a grand parade and more.
