This week our city pick of the week is Edina! Located just west of Minneapolis, 8 miles from downtown, this city has the benefits of a smaller town with all of the amenities of urban living. Edina has a variety of shopping areas, most notably the 50th and France downtown shopping area, which has a mixture of boutiques, shops, bakeries, restaurants, and a movie theater. Other shopping centers in Edina include the Southdale Center, which was the first fully enclosed and climate controlled mall in the US, as well as Galleria and Centennial Lakes Plaza. Edina also has a variety of parks and places, including the Edina Promenade, the Edina Aquatic Center, Braemar Arena, Field, and Golfcourse for a variety of year-round sports, and the Arneson Acres which includes the City of Edina Greenhouse, Edina Museum and the Edina Historical Society. Additionally, an abundance of neighborhood parks and green spaces are scattered throughout Edina for residents to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.
Edina prides itself on art, and there are two major art festivals each year in Edina. The “Edina Art Fair” is a free event that takes place every June at 50th and France, and one of the top art fairs in the Nation. The free “Fall Into the Arts Festival” is a slightly smaller arts festival is held at Centennial Lakes Park. This year, the “Fall Into the Arts Festival” will take place this weekend on Saturday September 12th-Sunday September 13th. Additionally, you can see a variety of public art and sculptures around the town and in Edina parks as well as at the Edina Art Center throughout the year. This year, Edina is participating in Open Streets for the first time on Sunday, September 27th. 50th Street will be closed off to traffic, but open to residents to walk, bike, or skate, and participate in music, games, and other activities to promote local businesses and the community.
Edina is an attractive city and a great place to live and visit, especially for people who love shopping, nature, and the arts. For information on Edina homes for sale, pending sales, and closed sales, see the charts below:
