This week we are taking a look at a southwest suburb, Chanhassen! Located about 20 miles from downtown Minneapolis, Chanhassen is a lovely city, with unique features including community and neighborhood parks, and lakes, as well as a variety of attractions. The Chanhassen Dinner Theaters is one of the biggest dinner theaters in the nation, featuring broadway musicals, comedy acts, and musicians, and currently featuring the popular musical, Mary Poppins. Even popular among rock musicians, Chanhassen is the location of Prince’s extensive recording studio complex, Paisley Park. While Prince may be elusive, he does occasionally throw special concerts and events at his studio. The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is nearby in neighboring Chaska, with trails to explore, beautiful paths featuring over 1,200 acres of gardens, plants and tree collections, along with an apple house open in the fall.
Residents love the neighborhood and community parks in and around Chanhassen, many which feature playgrounds, playing fields, open spaces and trails. Some of the most popular parks are at the lakes – Lake Ann is popular with swimming beaches, boat rentals, ball fields and sport courts. Other popular parks include Lake Susan, City Center Park, Bandimere Park, as well as nearby Lake Minnewashta and Lotus Lake with even more outdoor recreation, trails and beaches. Additionally, residents of Chanhassen can improve their golf game at Bluff Creek Golf Course or Halla Greens Executive Golf Course.
Popular events in Chanhassen include the annual February Festival, 4th of July Celebration, and KleinBank Summer Concert Series. The February Festival is the first Saturday in February, and features a medallion hunt, ice skating, bonfire, sledding, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and an ice fishing contest. The upcoming 4th of July Celebration is packed with events from July 2nd-4th, and is attended by nearly 10,000 people per day! Events include a carnival, sports tournaments, Minnesota Twins Baseball/Softball Clinic, a business expo, wine and beer garden, classic car show, contests, a parade, and of course, fireworks over Lake Ann. Thursdays throughout the rest of summer, be sure to check out the KleinBank Summer Concert Series, at the City Center Park Plaza!
